Design for Sustainability an introduction
Design for Sustainability has become a Hot Topic of discussion today. Strategists, Policy makers, Educationists, Industrialists, all talk about it at the moment.
However, when I was talking to some product design engineers, I found that they are not very keen on sustainable design or environmental impact. This will have to change because they are the key people who can make it happen.
As product designers they have their freedom and authority to decide on their designs that meets the desired function of the product. Product designers have many reasons to justify their decisions on the product design and sometimes they push hard to implement their ideas. As long as it is economically viable, the product designers’ authority on deciding the material and manufacturing process is not questioned in their company or organization.
